Why Am I so Tired All the Time? 7 Simple Things that Can Help.
If you’re tired all the time, you’re not alone.
And you don’t necessarily need to completely overhaul your life to start feeling better.
Sometimes the answer isn’t another complicated morning routine, an extreme diet, or a cabinet full of supplements.
Sometimes it’s getting back to a few simple basics—and doing them consistently.
At Simple Energy Today, that’s what I’m interested in: small, realistic habits that can help you feel stronger, more energized, and better equipped for everyday life.
So if you’ve been wondering, “Why am I so tired all the time?”, here are seven places I’d start.
1. Take a Look at Your Sleep
This one sounds obvious, but it’s easy to underestimate how much sleep affects the way we feel during the day.
Getting enough sleep isn’t just about the number of hours you’re in bed. Your sleep can also be affected by stress, your evening routine, caffeine, alcohol, screen time, and how consistent your sleep schedule is.
Instead of trying to completely transform your nighttime routine, start with one thing.
Try going to bed 15–30 minutes earlier.
Or put your phone away a little earlier than usual.
Small changes count.
2. Make Sure You’re Eating Enough Protein
If you’re trying to lose weight, it can be tempting to simply eat less and less.
But constantly feeling hungry, tired, and unsatisfied isn’t a great strategy for long-term success.
Protein is important for maintaining and building muscle, and including protein with meals can also help you feel satisfied.
Try adding a source of protein to each meal.
Some simple options include:
- Eggs
- Greek yogurt
- Cottage cheese
- Chicken or turkey
- Fish
- Lean beef
- Beans and lentils
- Protein shakes
You don’t have to make your meals complicated.
Just look for opportunities to add a little more protein.
3. Don’t Forget About Water
Staying hydrated is one of those simple things that’s easy to overlook.
And when you’re busy, it’s surprisingly easy to go through half the day without drinking much water.
One of the easiest things you can do is simply make water easier to drink.
Keep a water bottle with you while you’re working, driving, exercising, or watching TV.
You don’t need a complicated hydration system.
You just need water within reach.
A simple tool I like
If having a water bottle nearby makes you more likely to drink water, that’s a win.

4. Move—Even When You Don’t Feel Like It
When you’re exhausted, exercise can sound like the last thing you need.
But movement doesn’t have to mean a 60-minute workout.
Try:
- Taking a 10-minute walk
- Doing a few stretches
- Walking around the house
- Taking the stairs
- Following a short walking workout
- Doing a few bodyweight exercises
Sometimes the goal isn’t “work out.”
The goal is simply:
Move your body for 10 minutes.
You can always do more if you feel like it.
5. Build Muscle, Not Just a Smaller Number on the Scale
If you’re over 40 and trying to lose weight, I’d encourage you to think beyond the scale.
Strength matters.
Resistance training can help support muscle and strength, which become increasingly important as we get older.
You don’t need a gym membership, either.
A couple of dumbbells, resistance bands, or your own body weight can be enough to get started.
And you don’t have to lift incredibly heavy weights.
Consistency matters more than perfection.
One supplement worth learning about: creatine
Creatine isn’t just for bodybuilders.
Creatine monohydrate is one of the better-studied supplements for supporting muscle strength and exercise performance, particularly when combined with resistance training. Life Extension’s Creatine Powder contains 5 grams of creatine monohydrate per scoop and is an unflavored powder with no added ingredients.

6. Give Your Body Time to Recover
Sometimes we’re tired because we’re simply asking too much of ourselves.
Work. Kids. Housework. Exercise. Errands. Family responsibilities. Trying to eat better. Trying to sleep better.
It adds up.
Rest isn’t laziness.
Your body needs recovery just as much as it needs movement.
That might mean:
- Taking a rest day
- Going for an easy walk instead of doing a hard workout
- Sitting outside for 10 minutes
- Going to bed earlier
- Saying no to something that doesn’t absolutely need to get done
You don’t have to earn your rest.
7. Consider Whether You Need More Than Lifestyle Changes
This one is important.
If you’re persistently exhausted or your fatigue is new, severe, or unexplained, don’t assume you just need more coffee or another supplement.
Fatigue can have many possible causes, including inadequate sleep, stress, nutritional deficiencies, medications, thyroid problems, anemia, sleep disorders, and other medical conditions.
Sometimes the best thing you can do for your energy is talk with your healthcare professional and find out why you’re tired in the first place.
What About Magnesium?
Magnesium is an essential mineral involved in many processes throughout the body, including normal muscle and nerve function and energy metabolism.
If you’re not getting enough magnesium from your diet, supplementation may be worth discussing with your healthcare professional.
One option to learn about is Life Extension Magnesium Glycinate. Their current formula provides 105 mg of elemental magnesium per capsule.

One important note: Supplements aren’t a replacement for adequate food, sleep, movement, or medical care. And more isn’t necessarily better.
Want to Make This Simpler?
You don’t need to start all seven habits tomorrow.
In fact, please don’t.
Pick one.
Maybe it’s drinking more water.
Maybe it’s adding protein to breakfast.
Maybe it’s taking a 10-minute walk.
Maybe it’s going to bed 20 minutes earlier.
Start there.
